 Studying in Japan is a dream for many students, and  for this student, it became a reality after years of hard work and preparation. He currently pursuing a course in Electrical and Electronic Systems at Fukushima Kosen. Here, we like to share his journey, from securing a scholarship to experiencing the beauty of life in Japan, and offer some advice to aspiring students.

 He started the journey by studying at INTEC Education College, a Japanese preparation school. This step was pivotal in equipping him with the language and cultural knowledge required for life in Japan.

 He was fortunate to receive the JPA scholarship, which covered his education. The scholarship was awarded based on his academic excellence— achieved straight A’s in the SPM examination and passed the rigorous JPA interview process. While he doesn’t recall all the specific criteria for the scholarship, one important requirement was that applicants’ parents must not be on the JPA blacklist.

Here’s a brief timeline of his journey:

• 2019: Completed high school.
• 2020: Received the SPM results, applied for the JPA scholarship, and started preparation at INTEC Education College around May or June.
• 2022: Sat for the Mongkasho exam (an exam to determine eligibility to fly to Japan). Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, his departure was delayed and finally flew to Japan in May instead of April.

 Studying in Japan has been both challenging and rewarding. One of the most memorable aspects has been traveling. Every holiday, He and his friends made it a point to explore different parts of Japan. He had visited Sendai, Shimane, Niigata, Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, and many other breathtaking locations. Traveling allowed him to immerse himself in the culture and appreciate the beauty of this country.

 Another highlight of his experience is the supportive environment at Kosen. Even during stressful times, being surrounded by kind and understanding people has been a blessing. Moments like these that make the journey worthwhile.

For those considering studying in Japan, here are some tips:

1. Study hard: The academic rigor in Japan is no joke. Kosen, in particular, can be challenging as you might find yourself alone for three years.
2. Learn cooking skills: Cooking is an essential skill that will come in handy during your time in Japan.
3. Be resilient: Japan is not for the weak. The language barrier, cultural differences, and academic pressure can be tough, but they are all part of the growth experience.

University: Ritsumeikan University

Course: Information Science and Engineering

 Studying abroad can be both an exciting and challenging experience, especially in a country as unique and culturally rich as Japan. We would like to share a student journey past from high school to Ritsumeikan University, where she is currently pursuing a course in Information Science and Engineering, which was filled with both challenges and unforgettable moments. We hope the story inspires and guides those who are planning to take a similar path.

 Even before she completed high school (SPM/IGCSE), she had already set her sights on studying in Japan. After extensive research on Japanese universities, she found herself at a crossroads when it come to choose a preparation school. Ultimately, she decided to enroll in INTEC Education College. What drew her to INTEC was its program structure, where the second year involves transferring to a language center in Japan—an invaluable opportunity to prepare for university life.

 However, due to the pandemic in 2021, she postponed enrollment until 2022, as classes were still being conducted online. During this time, she took advantage of JASSO's online university fairs to learn more about Japanese universities, the JLPT (Japanese-Language Proficiency Test), and the EJU (Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students). This period of research helped her gain deeper insights into the academic and cultural expectations in Japan.

 Studying in Japan is not without its difficulties. For her, one of the biggest challenges was preparing for university entrance exams. The EJU exam, combined with practicing university past papers and interviews, was a highly stressful experience. The pressure of meeting the entrance requirements and the fear of not being accepted into her dream university weighed heavily on her shoulders.

 Her application to Ritsumeikan University stands out as a defining moment. She wasn’t accepted during the first intake. However, with the unwavering support of her sensei, she was able to prepare better for the second intake and ultimately secure admission to her first-choice university. This experience taught her the value of perseverance and the importance of seeking guidance from mentors.

 Despite the hardships, her time in Japan has been filled with beautiful moments that she will always treasure. One of the most fulfilling aspects has been meeting people from diverse backgrounds—Japanese, European, American, Malaysian, and more. These interactions have not only broadened her perspective but also deepened her appreciation for cultural diversity.

 Sports have also played a significant role in her journey. She had been fortunate to participate in volleyball and karate, activities that have allowed her to bond with others and learn more about herself. Whether it was creating team chemistry, learning new skills, or traveling with teammates, these experiences have helped her push to limits and grow both personally and socially. The friendships she had formed along the way are the true highlights of his time in Japan.

 Pursuing higher education in a foreign land is a journey filled with challenges, excitement, and countless learning opportunities. For those aspiring to study in Japan, here’s an inspiring story from a student at Teikyo University Utsunomiya Campus, pursuing a degree in Robot Mechatronics.

 The journey began with a desire to explore Japan’s renowned education system. After completing SPM, he discovered Pusat Bahasa Teikyo, a Japanese preparation school, through online research. He spent about one and a half years there, mastering the language and preparing for the cultural shift before heading to Japan to further their studies.

 The initial phase of settling in was not without its challenges. The first two to three months were spent adapting to a completely new environment and finding comfort in a foreign land. Moving into a new house and navigating an unfamiliar lifestyle took time, but persistence and determination paved the way for a smoother transition.

 Amid the hurdles of settling down, there were incredible experiences that left lasting memories. During the first month in Japan, he hiked Asahidake, one of Japan’s majestic peaks. The very next day, he visited Kamikōchi, a scenic destination known for its stunning natural beauty. These adventures marked the beginning of a profound connection with the country’s culture and landscapes.

For those dreaming of studying in Japan, here’s the advice shared:

1. First Year: Focus on establishing a routine. Wake up early, attend school, complete your homework, and discipline yourself. Building a solid foundation during the first year is crucial.
2. Second Year: This is the time to step out of your comfort zone. Explore, engage with the culture, and appreciate the small joys of everyday life.
3. Third Year: By now, you’ll hopefully have formed a supportive circle of friends or a community you can rely on. Cherish these connections as they’ll make your experience even more meaningful.

Course: Chemical Engineering

 Studying abroad is a dream for many students, and for those who aspire to pursue their education in Japan, the journey is both challenging and rewarding. Here's a detailed account of one such journey, from securing a prestigious Petronas scholarship to thriving in a new academic and cultural environment.

 The decision to study in Japan stemmed from a strong passion for Chemical Engineering and a desire to explore Japan's renowned education system. After receiving stellar SPM results, with 9 A’s, the first step was applying for the Petronas Education Sponsorship Programme (PESP) and selecting Japan as the preferred destination. The journey began with structured assessments, including interviews that required concise, focused answers and strong teamwork skills. Passing these phases was the key to securing the scholarship.

 The preparation for studying in Japan involved a crucial 20-month stint at Ambang Asuhan Jepun (AAJ), Universiti Malaya. This program provided the necessary language skills and cultural understanding to thrive in a Japanese university environment. The rigorous preparation ensured a smooth transition to Niigata University, where the real journey began.

 Being a Petronas scholar comes with specific expectations. Maintaining a GPA of 3.00 is mandatory, and graduates must fulfill a five-year bond with Petronas, which includes a structured interview post-graduation. While the possibility of pursuing a master’s degree exists, it’s uncommon due to the bond agreement.

 Studying abroad isn’t without its hurdles. In the first year, there were communication challenges with Petronas officers unfamiliar with Japan’s education system. As part of the first batch sent to Japanese national universities, the students had to advocate for themselves, clarifying processes and resolving misunderstandings. Over time, with support from Petronas staff in Japan, these issues were resolved, paving the way for smoother experiences for subsequent batches.

 Despite the challenges, the experience was filled with unforgettable moments. Exploring Japan’s unique prefectures, snowboarding, and soaking in the local culture were highlights. Out of Japan’s 47 prefectures, only seven remain unexplored. Additionally, working part-time at Kumon was a fulfilling decision, providing a perfect balance between work and leisure. These experiences added a rich dimension to the academic journey, making it truly memorable.

• Adapt to New Opportunities: Although the engineering scholarship program may now focus more on business, it’s still a great chance to experience Japan while securing a stable career path.

 The journey from SPM to studying Economics at Shiga University is not without its challenges, but it’s one filled with growth, learning, and unforgettable experiences. For many students, the dream of studying abroad can seem distant, but with dedication and the right opportunities, it becomes achievable. This is a story of determination and adaptation, from Unikl MFI in Malaysia to Ehime University in Japan.

The journey began at Universiti Kuala Lumpur Malaysian France Institute (Unikl MFI), where the focus was on building a solid foundation. The first year was dedicated to mastering the Japanese language, a skill essential for pursuing higher education in Japan. This intensive preparation ensured not only linguistic proficiency but also cultural acclimatization.

In the subsequent two years, the focus shifted to engineering subjects, taught using a syllabus designed to meet Japanese university standards. This structured approach helped bridge the gap between Malaysian and Japanese education systems, paving the way for a smooth transition.

A pivotal moment in the journey was discovering the MARA scholarship program. This opportunity was uncovered at a MARA booth in Setiu, Terengganu. Open to SPM graduates with a minimum of 7As, including strong grades in Mathematics and Physics, the program offered a flexible repayment loan contingent on academic performance. The MARA scholarship was not just financial support; it was a gateway to fulfilling the dream of studying in Japan.

Studying in Japan came with its unique challenges. Adapting to the Japanese education system required learning complex engineering terms in Japanese—a daunting task for someone initially unfamiliar with the language. However, perseverance and the skills gained during the preparation phase at Unikl MFI proved invaluable.

Amidst the challenges, there were moments of beauty and joy. Immersing in Japanese culture, participating in seasonal festivals, and exploring breathtaking landscapes made the experience unforgettable. These cultural encounters enriched the academic journey, fostering personal growth and global understanding.
